Cinderella at the Octagon Theatre: Dress & Technical Rehearsal

English, Creative Writing, and Theatre students at the University of Bolton were invited to watch the final rehearsals for the play as the Bolton Octagon prepared for their opening night (18th November, 2016). It was interesting to see the various technical processes all departments go through to prepare for the production. The actors also rehearsed individual scenes and although these were performed out of context, the multi-talented actors were full of enthusiasm, singing, acting and playing different instruments on stage. The segments of the adaptation we observed showed this to be a family-friendly festive fairy-tale play, leaving theatre goers admiring the great costume design and humming along to the songs. 

The set has a very distinctive Christmas feel and the lighting gave the audience the effect of being enshrouded in a kind of circus tent while awaiting the performers. As always, all of the staff at the Octagon were friendly and welcoming to the students; through the great partnership between the University of Bolton and the Bolton Octagon, students have once again been given a valuable insight into the workings of a professional theatre.
