On a warm and sunny Spring day, the English Department travelled to Stratford-Upon-Avon by coach, where we attended a captivating Royal Shakespeare Company production of Antony and Cleopatra.

All of the performances – but especially Josette Simon’s Cleopatra, which was described by The Guardian as ‘to die for’ – were moving, and to watch the tragedy unfold on stage was extremely thought-provoking, especially in light of current political developments. However, we made sure that we balanced tragedy with more light-hearted socialising and entertainment, which included enjoying coffee and cake in the sun and walking along the River Avon.
